"At the insistence of the McCain campaign, the Oct. 2 debate between the Republican nominee for vice president, Gov. Sarah Palin, and her Democratic rival, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., will have shorter question-and-answer segments than those for the presidential nominees, the advisers said. There will also be much less opportunity for free-wheeling, direct exchanges between the running mates.
McCain advisers said they had been concerned that a loose format could leave Ms. Palin, a relatively inexperienced debater, at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive.
Commission members wanted a relaxed format that included time for unpredictable questioning and challenges between the two vice-presidential candidates. On Wednesday, the commission unanimously rejected a proposal sought by advisers to Ms. Palin and Senator John McCain of Arizona, the Republican presidential nominee, to have the moderator ask questions and the candidates answer, with no time for unfettered exchanges. Advisers to Mr. Biden say they were comfortable with either format."
...
"McCain advisers said they were only somewhat concerned about Ms. Palin’s debating skills compared with those of Mr. Biden, who has served six terms in the Senate, or about his chances of tripping her up. Instead, they say, they wanted Ms. Palin to have opportunities to present Mr. McCain’s positions, rather than spending time talking about her experience or playing defense."

Unbelievable. I'm surprised the McCain camp isn't just insisting that the questions be given to them in advance and that Palin only be required to read a speech answering all those questions.

How come I'm not surprised they are asking for special treatment? She is still going to look unknowledgable next to Biden no matter how short the question and answer section. I'm glad the proposal was rejected by the commission.
1Aaaarrrrgggghhhh. I truly despise this woman. Why can't some people see through the fact that she is not cut out for this job? Apparently the McCain camp is nervous at what this debate will bring as well.
2IS SHE GONNA NEED HER BLANKIE AND PACIFIER TOO????
I am with you bluesuze. she makes me sick. this is absolutely ridiculous! she is going to look very stupid up there! i cant wait to watch these debates.
how is this woman ever gonna stand up and talk to leaders or address a country about some REAL ISSUES if you needs special rules for her ONLY VP DEBATE!?
3Of course. They have to make sure during Palin's cram sessions, she has time to memorize enough generic answers. I hope Biden eats her alive.
Because Girls like horror too!
4HorrorFatale.blogspot.com
trust that he will. and the next day she will be crying "SEXIST" oh please........
5It should stay with the same proper format it's always been and by asking for a substitution it makes her look very unable and weak. Obama Baby!!!!
6Why am I not even suprised. The choice of Palin as the VP pick was clearly a spontaneous decision, I mean someone in the McCain camp had to know Palin wasn`t going to be able to float on pre-written speeches during the remainder of the campaign season...or did they?
and so much for that whole "she`s got experience" argument, a politician who can't debate is practically a living oxymoron!!!
7This is astounding. I'm glad Biden is being compliant and being a good sport about the situation, but I hope he doesn't back down in the debates. It will make me sick to my stomach if they accuse him of being sexist.
8I think from now until the election anytime anyone criticizes Palin they are going to be called sexist! But I bet you won't hear the Obama camp crying racism!!
9californiagirl--get ready for it! once he eats her alive they will be calling him a sexist pig!

Why is she allowed to get away with this crap????????????? IF this were Obama -- the man
wouldn't stand a chance.
